Building a Stronger Alumni Ecosystem

The MITAA (Madras Institute of Technology Alumni Association) was founded in 1966 and has grown into many chapters worldwide. mitaa.org.in

Our Coimbatore Chapter established in 2012 builds on this legacy locally, strengthening the bond among alumni, sustaining engagement with our alma mater, and contributing to the MIT community and beyond.

MITAA Coimbatore Chapter (MITAA CC) alumni platform focused on building meaningful relationships among MIT alumni while creating opportunities for collaboration, mentoring, entrepreneurship, career support, and community impact.

The chapter serves as a bridge between alumni, students, industries, and future innovators through networking events, knowledge-sharing sessions, and social initiatives..The platform aims to connect alumni across industries, regions, and generations while supporting students and strengthening the MIT legacy.

About the event

The Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) in Chennai merged with Anna University in September 1978, becoming one of the premier constituent campuses of the university. Prior to its merger with Anna University in 1978, the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) in Chennai exclusively offered 3-year Diploma in MIT (DMIT) courses for Science graduates,as entry level to MIT, based on their undergraduate marks and in person interviews.

The courses offered were 1.Aeronautical Engineering | 2.Automobile Engineering | 3.Electronics Engineering | 4. Instrumentation Engineering. This diploma was highly respected and recognized globally. The entry requirements and course structure were updated after the institute merged with Anna University and DMIT (Diploma) was transitioned into a B.Tech. degree. Today, admission to MIT Chennai takes place after the 12th standard through TNEA counseling for a 4-year B.E./B.Tech. program.

Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) in Chennai has a rich legacy of exceptionally successful graduates who have reached the pinnacle of their careers and enjoyed fruitful retirementsMIT has also produced numerous distinguished alumni who have shaped India's history in aerospace, science, literature, and cinema. Notable figures are:

Aerospace and Science :

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam: The 11th President of India and a renowned aerospace scientist [A. P. J. Abdul Kalam]. He graduated from MIT with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering in 1960.

Dr.K.Sivan: The former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) who played a pivotal role in missions like Chandrayaan-2R.

N. Agarwal: An eminent missile scientist known as the "Father of the Agni missile"

Literature & Media :

Sujatha (S. Rangarajan): A highly celebrated Tamil author, novelist, and screenwriter . He was also an engineer who worked on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for Bharat Electronics Limited .

Madonne Ashwin: An award-winning Tamil film director and screenwriter (known for films like Mandela and Maaveeran)

Susi Ganeshan: A well-known Tamil film director and screenwriter( Five star, Thiruttu Payale, Kandhasamy)

Bagavathi Perumal: A popular character actor in the Tamil film industry

Annual Summary - 2025- 2026

MITAA CC, with support of Bangalore Chapter and in collaboration with KCIRI, and the Departments of Mechatronics and ECE, Kumaraguru College of Technology, organized and conducted a National Seminar on EMI/EMC on 26th September 2025.

Mr. K. Govindasamy, Chief Executive Officer of Hydrill Equipments, Coimbatore, and an alumnus of the Automobile Engineering Department (T.No. 26206), is honored with the Eminent Alumnus Award by the MITAA Central Committee during the MITAA Annual General Meeting and Awards Function.

MITAA Coimbatore members participated in the MITAA Chennai Chapter AGM and engaged in an interactive session with the Dean, MIT, and fellow alumni.

Ravi A. , Production Department , T. No.: 05511 - Honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Received the “Sigaram Award” from Director Bakiyaraj.Contributed materials worth ₹1 lakh to an Old Age Care Centre near Nagercoil for the construction of a new building.

Rear Admiral V. M. Doss served as the Chief Guest for the Valedictory Ceremony of the Girls’ Throwball Tournament held at Githanjali Public School. Rear Admiral Mohandoss (Senior) graced the Independence Day Celebration as the Chief Guest at Global Pathways Higher Secondary School on 15.08.2025.

Mr. S. V. Raman, Principal Consultant at Sai Veera & Associates, Coimbatore, and an alumnus of the Instrumentation Engineering Department (T. No. 23094), is honoured with the Eminent Alumnus Award by the MITAA Central Committee during the MITAA Annual General Meeting and Awards Function, in recognition of his valuable contributions in his professional domain and to society.

MITAA Coimbatore members participated in the MITAA Chennai Chapter AGM and engaged in an interactive session with the Dean, MIT, and fellow alumni. The 25th Batch Alumni of MIT, who passed out in 1976, are honoured with the prestigious Goldies Award by MITAA in recognition of their contributions and continued association with the MIT alumni community. The awards will be presented during the MITAA Annual General Meeting and Awards Function, to be held on Sunday, 6 September 2026, at 10:30 AM at the Alumni Club, R.A. Puram, Chennai – 600028.

Supplied food provisions to the elderly and destitute in Thondamuthur
